Take up the cooking challenge for Australia’s Healthy Weight Week!
The countdown is on to Australia’s Healthy Weight Week (AHWW), being held across the country from February 15th to 21st. An initiative of the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA), AHWW encourages Australians to be a healthy weight by eating better, feeling better and moving more. According to new research, less than 1 in 4 Australians will be of healthy weight by 2031–32, and DAA wants to change this.
Research shows that people who prepare food at home are more likely to eat smaller portions and take in fewer kilojoules and less fat, salt and sugar. And in turn, this is more likely to result in a healthy weight. So AHWW is about inspiring Australian adults to make simple changes towards smart eating, starting with cooking at home and choosing the right portions. It’s all about making healthy food tasty, fast and affordable!
Want to get involved? Why not don an apron and take up the cooking challenge – make a pledge to cook at home during Australia’s Healthy Weight Week – yes, that means seven home-cooked meals in seven days! This is a great first step towards eating healthier, feeling better and maintaining a healthy weight, as well as improving your overall health.
