Kate Marsh - Advanced Accredited Practicing Dietitian, Credentialled Diabetes Educator
Kate Marsh is an Advanced Accredited Practicing Dietitian and Credentialled Diabetes Educator, and the director of Northside Nutrition and Dietetics. Kate graduated with a Master of Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Sydney in 1995 and completed a Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education and Management in 1997. She has more recently completed her PhD looking at the effects of Glycemic Index (GI) in the diets of women with PCOS and is co-author of The Low GI Guide to Managing PCOS, The Low GI Vegetarian Cookbook, Low GI Gluten-Free Living and The Bump to Baby Diet.
Kate works with clients with type 1 and gestational diabetes, PCOS, and those following a vegetarian diet. As a diabetes educator, she can also offer diabetes education to people with newly diagnosed diabetes, or those needing review of their diabetes education and management. Having had type 1 diabetes for more than 25 years, Kate can provide a real understanding of the issues faced in the day to day management of diabetes.
Kate currently chairs the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) PCOS and Vegetarian Interest Groups and is co-chair of the DAA Diabetes Interest Group. She is on the board of Diabetes Counselling Online, is on the editorial board for Diabetes Managment Journal and the magazine editorial advisory group for the ADEA (Australian Diabetes Educators Association) and is the newsletter editor for the Australian Lifestyle Medicine Association (ALMA). Kate writes regularly for a number of publications including Diabetic Living Magazine. She is a recipient of the DAA Young Achievers Award, was a NSW finalist in the 2006 Telstra Business Womens Awards and recently recieved the Joan Woodhill Prize for Excellence in Research - Doctorate Award, for her research study in women with PCOS.
Rachel Alexander - Accredited Practicing Dietitian, Diabetes Educator
Rachel is an Accredited Practising Dietitian. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of New England in 1987, followed by a Graduate Bachelor of Nutrition & Dietetics from the Flinders University of South Australia in 1989. She has more recently completed a Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education from Deakin University.
Rachel has experience in a wide range of clinical and community roles. She has worked for Northern Territory Health, Hunter New England Area Health and Sydney South West Area Health Service. Rachel works with clients of all ages, particularly those with type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance and impaired glucose tolerance, but also provides advice on heart health, digestive disorders, Coeliac disease and general nutrition. She has a special interest in healthy eating for young children. Her desire is to help people develop a positive relationship with food so they can enjoy the pleasure of eating while achieving healthy eating patterns.
Cass Maxwell - Accredited Practicing Dietitian
Cass Maxwell is an Accredited Practising Dietitian with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition with First Class Honours from The University of Sydney. Cass worked for more than ten years in the corporate world in both London and Sydney, before deciding she wanted a change of career to one in which she could make a real difference to others and so returned to university to study nutrition. She joined our practice in early 2011 after completing her clinical training at Royal North Shore and Canterbury Hospitals.
Cass works with a range of clients providing advice for healthy weight management, heart health (e.g. cholesterol and blood pressure), digestive issues such as irritable bowel syndrome, and food allergy & intolerance. Cass is passionate about healthy eating at every size and, having developed an interest in the prevention and treatment of eating disorders, supports clients to optimise their physical health and develop a positive relationship with food. Cass also has a keen interest in the role of good nutrition for the elderly and takes care of our aged care facilities, conducting menu assessments, staff education and resident consultations.
Elise Cameron - Accredited Practicing Dietitian and Exercise Scientist
Elise is an Accredited Practising Dietitian with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise & Sports Science) from the University of Sydney and a Masters of Nutrition & Dietetics from the University of Canberra. Prior to joining the NND team Elise was working at Bendigo Health in Victoria, where she split her time between Oncology, Orthopaedics, Neurology and Geriatrics. She also volunteers her time to work alongside Australian Institute of Sport dietitians at both the NSW and Australian Rugby Academies.
Elise works with a range of clients providing advice for weight management, cancer (managing nutrition during and after treatment), heart health, (e.g. cholesterol and blood pressure) and general nutrition. She has a particular interest in sports nutrition. Elise is also passionate about the role of good nutrition for the elderly and will be working with Cass to take care of our aged care facilities, conducting menu assessments, staff education and resident consultations.
Caroline Shannon - Accredited Practicing Dietitian
Caroline Shannon is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian who graduated with a Bachelor of Science and then a Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics from the University of Otago in New Zealand in 2004.
Caroline’s expertise lies in the area of weight management and weight loss surgery, having practiced in this area for two years at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London. As well as obesity and weight management for both adults and children Caroline sees clients for advice on heart health (high cholesterol and high blood pressure), insulin resistance, impaired glucose tolerance and type 2 diabetes. Caroline also has a keen interest in the treatment of eating disorders. Understanding that practical and realistic advice is critical, Caroline is committed to helping people realise and meet their nutritional goals.
Mette Wittenburg - Office Manager/Receptionist
Mette is our office manager/receptionist and has worked at the practice since early 2010. Mette is a Hospital Trained Dietitian from Økonomaskolen in Copenhagen and has more than 10 years experience in hospital nutrition and staff management as well as 6 years experience in managing and tutoring apprentice students during their education.
Mette has an Academy Foundation (AF) Degree in Business, Leadership & Management, from Copenhagen Business and Management College. Since moving to Australia she has worked with a medically supervised weight loss program in Melbourne and has developed menu plans and supervised healthy eating habits for children in a long day care centre in Sydney. Mette also worked for two years as a volunteer at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in Sydney before joining the NND team.
Sarah Day – Receptionist
Sarah is currently studying a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Commerce at Macquarie University. She is passionate about nutrition and has aspirations to complete a Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics at Sydney University in the future. Sarah currently works on reception on Wednesday and Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
Kate Ferreira - Receptionist/Administrative Assistant
Kate joined our team in 2012 after completing her year 10 work experience with us. She is currently a student at Arden Anglican School and has a particular interest in nutrition, hoping to pursue further studies in the area after finishing school.
Kate works on reception on Thursday evenings and Saturdays, helping Mette and Sarah to keep the office running smoothly.
